Symbolism: Kabbalah Tree of Life

The Tree of Life is a mystical symbol used in the Kabbalah.

Kabbalist’s believe the Tree of Life to be a diagrammatic representation of the process by which the Universe came into being and of mans place in the universe.

Its spheres contain 10 spiritual elements.

From the bottom upwards; kingdom, element, splendor, eternity, glory, bravery, mercy, knowledge, sense, wisdom, crown)

They represent the ten numbers and are connected by 22 paths (for 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet) They comprise the 32 paths of wisdom.

The central column represents balance or equilibrium.

The right column (Jachin) represents male energy and the left column (Boaz) represents female energy.

In my designs, I have created the spheres from the shapes found in the platonic solids (which symbolise the 5 states of matter, earth, air, water, fire, aether)

One design is primarily geometric, with a collection of geometric shapes collected  on the centre line

Flower design

The second design is also geometric in style. There is a flower growing up through the diagram, creating a flower head with each sphere –  to make it a little unique

I didn’t really manage to find many tattoo images I liked to put against this blog, so but I think it would create a really strong tattoo
